Do Something!

Someone said that you need to “do something, even if it’s wrong. Don’t just stand there doing nothing. Remember that a poor plan carried out with vigor and enthusiasm can succeed where the best plan in the world which is never executed has absolutely no chance of success. Action of some sort is always required if you want to be successful.”

Help Yourself Philosophy!

Philosophy is a set of basic principles underlying a particular sphere of knowledge. In this book, it is about the guiding principles of success.

Yet, I desire that this book will sound more practical, rather than philosophical. I desire to have this philosophy of successful living applicable to everybody irrespective of religious background.

This is the Help Yourself Philosophy which expounds principles of success combined with how-to-do-it guidelines.

Help Yourself is a principle that says: Do something!

Anxious start..

The idea of writing a book started way back in 1992 during my college years as I ponder about the idea of writing 25 goals to happen before you die - given the chance. The inspiration of writing about success came after reading the “Think and Grow Rich” in 1998 which I bought at the National Bookstore.  In the year 2000, I started to write the steps to make in order to realize the dream.

I really made an anxious start way back December 16, 2002 by writing the Preface! As was written, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

That anxious start - a single step- went on and on, to finish every chapter one at a time. I treaded slowly, went another mile, and, it was theoretically done - for in the first place, I believe it can be done.

HELP YOURSELF!

I desire to write something for the present generation and a legacy to the future generation…a book that would guide them on how to succeed in life! Success became a passionate word for me and of which I wanted to be.

I made a research on how to become successful, why people fail while others succeed. I read everything about the subject - to ascertain how the great men of all ages succeed.  Personally, I interview people, listen carefully to their answers, write them down for future reference and application.

I desire to make a philosophy for successful living - a Filipino attempt to pass on the principles and ideals of the great writers whom I admired most. This would be a self-help book that will serve as a guide to become successful. This is a book which I have the right to say as I let the principles revolutionize my life and the lives of many people. This is a record of success stories. This is an action book that was applied in a human laboratory of which the author has direct contact.  I believe in something and my faith keeps me believing that the principles expressed in this book are sound and practical.

For my hometown: Escalante City

"Acre of Diamond"

"The idea is that in your own country, everyone has the opportunity to make more of himself in his own environment, with his own skill, with his own energy, and with his own friends. Remember, if you know what people need you have gotten more knowledge of a fortune than any amount of capital can give you. There is a human need; there is a great fortune.

Greatness consists not in the holding of some future office, but really consists in doing great deeds with little means and the accomplishment of vast purposes from the private ranks of life.

To be great at all one must be great in his own place. He who can give to his city better streets and better sidewalks, better schools and more colleges, more happiness and more civilization, more of God, he will be great anywhere.

Let every man or woman here, if you never hear me again, remember this, that if you wish to be great at all, you must begin where you are and what you are, in your hometown, now.

He who can give to his city any blessing, he who can be a good citizen while living in his hometown, he who can make better homes, he who can be a blessing whether he works in the shop or sits behind the counter or keeps house, whatever be his life, he who would be great anywhere, must first be great in his hometown."

Thinking Big in Escalante City..

‎                                       "Thinking Big In Small Places"

You can never guess what great things can come out from unknown places when somebody begins to think greatly. As a matter of fact, the worlds most significant thinking was done in the town of Nazareth, and from it there emerged one who would be known as Lord and Master.(Can anything good come out of Nazareth?)

What mattered most was not the town, not the quality of the schools, not the nature of the community, nor the vigor of the synagogue, but rather the person who found in the town, the school, the synagogue and the community something more than anyone else found there. Jesus captured from his environment all the values it offered and then enriched it with his own insight.

Too often we are inclined to feel it is a misfortune when our children, for one reason or another, cant go to one of the great colleges or universities and have to settle for a college of a second rate standing.Yet, the point of the matter is that where people come from isnt nearly as important as the spirit and purpose inside them.

Can anything good come out of Escalante?

Yes!

How?

By thinking big in small places.

Success is a journey, not the destination.

I did not pass the Bar on my 1st take, probably my preparation was not enough,i did not give my full concentration and total commitment to the review,my foundation in the College of Law was not very good.

But i am challenged to give my dream a chance to come true; i want to give it a 'One More
Try.'

I may say that i fought a good fight. The 6 months review in Manila and taking the
Bar exams was an awesome experience!

To flunk in the Bar is not the end because the thrill is in being part of the experience. The
Bar is just part of the journey of my life. There's more to life than just being a Bar passer!!!Success is a journey, not the destination.

I am Hoping to Pass!

What a story it would be when I can stand by my definite purpose until it finds fulfillment!

It was the summer of 1996 when I learned that my family could not afford to send me to Law school. I just graduated from my prelaw and was so excited to enter College of Law. Bang!

I waited four years, until I can no longer contain it that I made a move to show that I can go to Law school. I took the Law Aptitude Test, and I passed!

Two weeks before enrollment, I met an accident on May 27, 2000 wherein I underwent a knee operation. With the hospital bills and debts to pay, plus my inability to walk at that time, it would seem that it’s very impractical to enroll in the College of Law.

One thing I’ve learned was that you cannot stop a person who has already made up his mind. The world makes way for a man who knows what he’s doing. I got enrolled though I’ll be walking with two crutches and a bandaged left foot.

To make the long story short, I was able to graduate with my Bachelor of Laws on March 24, 2007. Almost 7 years since I enrolled in June 2000.

After graduation, I reviewed for the Bar for 1 year at home and, then, an intensive review in Manila from April to September 2008. I took the Bar exams on the four Sundays of September but, i did not make it.

Nevertheless, I'm gonna give it a one more try. God bless!

Mission Statement

While keeping an eye single to the glory of God, to make the world a better place in which to live by empowering people to live more meaningful lives.

Starting first with my family and then expanding my circle of influence..

To live true to the principles i hold dear: Frugality, Order, Responsibility, Tranquility, Courage, Humility, Integrity, Patience, Moderation, Chastity, Kindness, Fairness and Cleanliness.
(FORT CHIP MC KFC)

To make the burden a little lighter and the way a little brighter for everyone i have regular contact with; to help others as best as i can and to thank those who help me along the way.

To live and let live, to learn and teach, to give and receive, to love and be loved, to understand and be understood.

Autosuggestion

I, Joel E. Malabon, desire to become a lawyer.

I am hoping to pass the Bar. God willing!

I pledge to be lawyer.

I made up my mind to be a good, Christian lawyer.

I will choose people who will inspire and help me to pursue this goal.

I will induce any two or more people to cooperate with me in a spirit of harmony for the attainment of this definite purpose.

I will blend my mind with some other minds to find solution to whatever obstacle that i may encounter.

I will switch my mind - my energy - from thoughts of physical expression to thoughts of some other nature, i will seek counsel from a sensible woman, and i will chose the right woman who shall support me toward success.

And, to be great, i must emulate the great by feelings and actions as nearly as possible, to receive accurate knowledge through sources other than the physical senses.

So help me God.

My name is Joel

Once upon a time when people still believed in vision and prophecy, people gave names not just to identify families and properties but also to set a mark, speak a future, or declare a purpose or destiny.

Names were used to carry on with the lineage, the character, or the profession. Even the name of one's town somehow reflected some skill, historical significance, or character trait.

The name Joel is a masculine name which comes from the Hebrew origin and it means: "Jehovah is God." By extension, Joel is a person who is strong-willed. {Wow!}

In its simple usage, it can also mean “God is willing.” If God wills, then He will! Thus, the expression: 'God willing.'

Although it is Hebrew in origin, the meaning of the name in English is “The Lord is God.” Based on the 1990 U.S. Census, Joel is a very popular male first name and a popular surname. The most popular, I think, is Billy Joel.

The name is widely used in English, French, Spanish and Swedish speaking countries. Famous bearers include film directors Joel Schumacher and Joel Coen, and singer Joel Madden. It was the 124th most popular name in USA in 2006. It also featured in the top 60 of Sweden, Spain, Northern Ireland and the Australian states of Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria.

Joel is the traditionally assumed author of the book of Joel, a narrative and apocalyptic book of canonical Jewish and Christian Scripture.

I thank God for giving me the name, coz it sounds good and easily remembered!!! he, he.

I can subscribe to the idea that Joels are cute, unless proven otherwise. It is a disputable presumption which can be overcome only by clear and convincing evidence to the contrary. Waaahhhhh!!!!!

(The meaning of the name was mostly taken through the Yahoo Web Search.)
